IgG is important for our defence against microorganisms and the molecules are produced by B lymphocytes as a part of our adaptive immune response. The IgG molecule has two separate functions; to bind to the pathogen that elicited the response and to recruit other cells and molecules to destroy the antigen. The variability of the IgG pool is generated by somatic recombination and the number of specificities in an individual at a given time point is estimated to be 1011 variants.
Specificity
Based on immunoelectrophoresis, the antibody reacts with the heavy chains on mouse IgG but not with the light chains on most mouse imnunoglobulins. Reconstitution
Reconstitute the antibody with 1.5 ml H₂O. Dissolve by gently mixing at 4°C, since extensive mixing will denature antibodies. Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-70°C). Avoid freeze/thaw cycles of solutions. Alternatively, glycerol (to a final concentration of 50%) may be added and the reconstituted antibody then stored at -20°C. Please note, under these conditions the concentration of the antibody and the buffer salts will be one-half of the original concentration.Other NotesTo ensure the quality of these reagents each lot is tested with several of our primary antibodies. Antibody specificity is tested by immunoelectrophoresis and shown to be specific for mouse IgG but not with light chains common to most mouse immunoglobulins. No cross-reactivity with non-immunoglobulin serum proteins has been detected. The antibody has also been tested by ELISA and/or adsorbed to ensure minimal cross-reactivity with human, bovine, and horse serum proteins, but the antibody may exhibit cross-reactivity with immunoglobulins from other species. IgM antibody is prominent in early immune responses to most antigens and predominates in certain antibody responses such as natural blood group antibodies. IgM (with IgD) is the major immunoglobulin expressed on the surface of B cells. The gene for the mu constant region contains four domains separated by short intervening sequences.
Class specific anti immunoglobulin antibodies are useful for: The characterization of malignant B cell proliferations. All but acute lymphocytic leukemias share either surface or intra cytoplasmic Ig with an isotypic restriction, which suggest the monoclonal nature of the cell population. Most of the chronic lymphocytic leukemias, non Hodgkin lymphomas and Burkitts lymphoma bear surface IgM, whereas plasmocytes from Waldenstroms disease bear intracytoplasmic IgM. The other isotypes are less frequently found. On the other hand multiple myelomas are usually of the IgG or IgA type.

Storage and Stability
Lyophilized: Store at 4 °C prior to restoration. Restore with 0.25 mL of deionized water (or equivalent). This product is stable for several weeks at 4 °C as an undiluted liquid. For extended storage mix product with glycerol to 50% and then aliquot contents and freeze at -20 °C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
